The BMW M5 Touring will make a comeback in 2024 © BMW
The German manufacturer announces the return of the M5 Touring alongside the M3 Touring. In two years, BMW suddenly woke up to sporty station wagons.
In tennis, a double break theoretically allows a player to take a big advantage over his rival in a set. At BMW, the double station wagon will simply make it possible to level up with the competition, in particular to the star. Indeed, at Mercedes, the AMGs in class C or E are both sold as a station wagon or a sedan. But for a few years, BMW had decided to abandon this segment to focus only on sedans. The recent release of the M3 Touring, however, seems to have given some ideas to those responsible for the brand: a strange bird from BMW’s past will resurface in the coming months. On the other hand, if the main lines of the recipe are unchanged, the ingredients have evolved.

So it’s a surprise that we weren’t necessarily expecting. After the commercial arrival of the M3 Touring, BMW is gearing up with the announcement of an M5 Touring which will take over from a rather special machine. Remember indeed this M5 E61 and its atmospheric V10. Obviously, there is no longer any question of using such an engine in 2023. The M5 Touring will support a substantial range with the classic 5 Series in sedan and station wagon, the future M5 sedan and the i5 electric versions sold in both bodies. . BMW probably felt it had to react to Mercedes and its armada on the “E” range. BMW will also have an advantage, since it will for the moment be the only one to sell an electric station wagon!
Regarding the M5 Touring, the V10 will be swapped for a hybrid block. Rechargeable hybrid, in this case, which should be directly derived from the S68 block found today under the hood of the XM. A V8 associated with an electric motor and a battery which should weigh heavily on the scale, but it is almost a must for these sports models in Europe.
