- BMW adds a manual transmission to the 2025 Z4
In recent years, when it comes to the manual transmission, we have seen manufacturers remove it from the market rather than add it. This time, we are treated to the opposite operation as BMW confirms that it will offer a manual transmission as an option with the 2025 Z4.
The rumor was that it would be done for 2024, but it will be for the following year.
The six-speed manual transmission will be offered with the M40i version of the Z4. It will be part of a group of options including other features. In addition, the car will benefit from a chassis benefiting from sportier settings, as well as a reinforced roll bar at the front. The offset tires (19 inches at the front, 20 inches at the rear) will surround rims bearing the M logo.
The brake calipers will be red while black accents will be applied to the mirror caps and logos.
The model will also benefit, as standard, from M Sport brakes and a rear differential, as well as the adaptive suspension developed by M. These features will also be included with the automatic transmission versions.
Production of the 2025 Z4 with manual transmission will begin in March. It will be offered with the coupe version, but also with the convertible.
Under the hood, remember that the M40i versions benefit from a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline 6-cylinder, rather than the 2.0-liter turbo 4-cylinder of the sDrive30i variants. The 6-cylinder will still offer 382 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. BMW mentions that 0-100 km/h can be done in 4.2 seconds with the Z4 with manual transmission. That’s 0.1 second slower than with the automatic transmission.
This is good news, but fans will have to take advantage while the offer is on the table, because the manual transmission seems doomed in the long term at BMW.
