BMKÖS supports climate-friendly cultural institutions – mica

The new funding program of the Ministry of Art and Culture supports cultural institutions with ecologically sustainable investments. 15 million euros are available for this. Projects to reduce CO are funded2-Emissions. Grant applications can now be submitted.

Climate and environmental protection are also burning issues of our time in the Austrian art and culture scene – in artistic debate and in questions of optimizing energy efficiency and the circular economy. With the new funding program “Climate Fit Cultural Companies” want that Federal Ministry for Art, Culture, Public Service and Sport (BMKÖS) in cooperation with the Climate and Energy Fund Support cultural institutions better on their way to an ecologically sustainable future. A total funding pot of 15 million euros is available. The program supports investments to reduce CO2-Emissions and saving of natural resources.

Secretary of State for Art and Culture Andrea Mayer says regarding the new funding program: “What was originally intended as a contribution by the cultural sector to coping with climate change is now a must for securing our cultural institutions in view of the energy crisis. With the unique funding program ‘Klimafitte Kulturbetriebe’ we are making ecological investments in the cultural sector affordable”.

The details of the funding program

Ecological projects for the sustainable reduction of CO are funded2-Emissions in all buildings belonging to an art and culture establishment in Austria:

  • Climate-friendly heating, ventilation and cooling
  • Use of renewable energy sources
  • Energy efficient indoor and outdoor lighting systems
  • Thermal building renovation

funding amounts

  • A maximum of 75% for projects with investment costs of up to 75,000 euros
  • 50% for investment costs over 75,000 euros
  • Maximum funding per project: 250,000 euros

The measures must be completed within 2 years following the end of the respective call for tenders

to be fully implemented. Implementation by December 31, 2025 at the latest

Two tender tranches

1st call: October 10, 2022 to March 15, 2023, 24:00
2nd call: March 16, 2023 to September 29, 2023, 12:00 p.m
