The El Tari Kupang Meteorology and Geophysics Station, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) issued an early warning of strong winds with speeds of 19-46 kilometers per hour on Saturday (31/8).

Areas that are potentially hit by strong winds are Kupang City, Kupang Regency, Rote Ndao, Sabu Raijua and parts of Sumba Island.

“NTT region is in the dry season. Cloud growth is decreasing and the eastern monsoon winds are still active. Be aware of the potential for strong winds that are dry in nature in the dry season which have the potential to cause widespread forest and land fires in NTT,” said Head of the El Tari Kupang Meteorology and Geophysics Station, Sti Nenot’ek.

The active east monsoon and the large difference in pressure gradient between Australia-Asia cause an increase in wind speed in the NTT region. In fact, wind speeds can reach 20-60 kilometers per hour until September 5, 2024.

Sti said, between September 3-5, there is potential for fog in the South Central Timor Regency, North Central Timor to Belu, and at the time the potential for fog hit Manggarai, Ngada and Ende. (Z-11)
