Since the clashes between the Federal Supreme Court and Elon Musk, owner of X (formerly Twitter), Bluesky has seen an increase in the number of users of the platform. However, this increase was not limited to moments when the rival network was blocked in Brazil, as the blue network continues to grow and now has 24 million users worldwide.
In addition to the new number of users, which has increased by 10 million since the last North American elections, which took place on November 5, the social network also gained its first user to have 1 million followers. The title was won by Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York.
It is important to make it clear that Alexandria’s account is the first to reach 1 million followers without counting the main profile on the social network. Still regarding the considerable increase in users on the network, a Bluesky representative, in an email sent, explained that after the elections, there were more than 1 million new users per day.

Can Bluesky sustain its current growth in the long term, and what factors will contribute to its success or failure?
**Interviewer:** Welcome to the show. Today, we’re discussing the meteoric rise of Bluesky, the decentralized social media platform. Joining me is tech analyst Sarah Jones. Sarah, Bluesky has been making headlines recently, boasting 24 million users worldwide and even Congressman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez joining the platform and hitting 1 million followers. What do you attribute this surge in popularity to?
**Sarah Jones:** Absolutely. This is a fascinating development. We’ve seen a lot of disillusionment with established platforms like X, formerly Twitter, and users are actively seeking alternatives that prioritize privacy and control. Bluesky’s decentralized nature, its focus on user autonomy, and recent events like the clashes between Elon Musk and governments seem to be driving this massive influx.
**Interviewer:** It’s certainly a turning point. Do you think this growth is sustainable for Bluesky in the long term?
**Sarah Jones:** That’s the million-dollar question. Right now, it’s riding a wave of public interest, but can it maintain momentum? It’ll depend on a few factors: its ability to manage the technical challenges of scaling up, its success in attracting a diverse user base beyond early adopters, and its ability to effectively moderate content while upholding its commitment to decentralization.
