This weekend one of the events that are part of the health days was held in San Diego, as part of an innovative health care pilot program for children, young people and their families, who are members of Blue Shield Promise Health Plan.

An 8-event pilot program designed to provide wellness visits for children, youth and their families members of the Blue Shield Promise Health Plan is underway in San Diego to address the observed trend of declining visits. as children grow older.

According to recent statistics, by age 3, there is a 10% decrease in children’s annual visits for medical checkups and that percentage increases even more after age five, with the lowest percentage of visits health annuals, between 18 and 21 years old.

This equity initiative involving the nonprofit health plan also includes Quality Health Partners, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego, and the YMCA of San Diego County.

Child well-being events are not intended to replace children’s regular visits to a primary care doctor, but rather to promote preventative care and reinforce the importance of children visiting their primary care doctors for ongoing medical care and annual checkups, including when they feel good.

To date, four child well-being events have been held for Blue Shield Promise Medi-Cal members, with two more coming soon, in Clairemont and Escondido, respectively.
