For the Ministry of Health and Prevention and the National Cancer Institute (INCa), the month of March is the month of raising awareness regarding colorectal cancer screening. In the Cher, the “Blue Mars” operation will be carried out by the Regional Cancer Screening Coordination Center (CRCDC) and the Primary Health Insurance Fund (CPAM). Stands will be set up in several markets in the department.
“The idea is to promote new methods of acquiring screening kits”, presents Amandine Frémont, head of the prevention department at the CPAM. Indeed, since last year, it is possible to obtain a kit in pharmacies and to order them online. “We wanted to strengthen access to screening for everyone, including for people who do not have attending physicians,” adds Amandine Frémont.
Nitrites and cancer: confirmed risk for charcuterie
Colorectal cancer affects more than 43,000 people in France. It is the second most common cancer in women and the third in men. Over the period 2020-2021, the screening participation rate was only 37% in Cher. Over the same period, 65 cancers were detected through screening. “This test is still taboo, but there is a nine out of ten chance of curing cancer if it is detected early. Screening for colorectal cancer also makes it possible to detect precancerous lesions to prevent cancer from developing”, explains Émilie Fetissof , coordinating doctor of the CRCDC. Screening is recommended every two years for men and women between the ages of 50 and 74.
Convenient
A stand will be present on Friday 10 at Châteaumeillant, Wednesday 15 at Sancoins, Wednesday 22 at Henrichemont and Friday 31 at Saint-Florent-sur-Cher. In partnership with the CDOS, an exercise bike will go from market to market. Residents are invited to cycle to raise funds. For each kilometer covered, one euro will be donated to the Flamme en Rose association, which supports people affected by cancer.
