The MLB hot stove is ablaze wiht activity, and while several star outfielders have secured new contracts, Jurickson Profar remains on the market. with prominent free agents like Anthony Santander, Teoscar Hernandez, and Tyler O’Neill all finding new teams, Profar has emerged as the top corner outfield bat still available.
According to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand, both the Toronto Blue Jays and the Houston Astros are seriously considering Profar.“The Blue Jays and the Astros are among the teams expressing strong interest in the switch-hitting Profar,” feinsand reported on the MLB Network.
The San Diego Padres, who employed profar last season, are also showing interest. They clearly value Profar both as a player and a person. However, financial constraints present a significant hurdle. The Padres are actively trying to trim payroll,a challenge intensified by recent ownership turmoil.
Profar, who will turn 32 next month, enjoyed a career-defining year in 2024. He made strides in almost every statistical category, including a career-high .280 average, .380 on-base percentage, and .459 slugging percentage. While Profar’s talent has always been evident, he previously lacked the power to fully unleash his consistent discipline and solid contact. the 2024 season saw a dramatic shift in that narrative. he smashed a career-high 24 home runs and added 29 doubles in 158 games and 668 plate appearances.
“Profar has long had a plus eye and excellent bat-to-ball skills, but the contact he made was frequently enough lacking punch,” observes a learned source.”That wasn’t at all the case in 2024, as he swatted a career-high 24 home runs and tacked on 29 doubles.”
Profar’s performance in 2024, coupled with his experience and versatility, makes him a highly desirable target for teams looking to bolster their outfield. His availability at this stage of the offseason could spark a bidding war among contenders.
Toronto Blue Jays Seek Still More Offense, Could Profar Be the Answer?
The Toronto Blue Jays are making waves this offseason. They’ve already made a significant addition to their outfield with veteran slugger Juan Santander, signing him to a five-year, $92.5 million contract. Santander’s power bat will undoubtedly bolster their lineup. Though, the Blue Jays aren’t done yet. They’re still actively seeking reinforcements in center field, and Jurickson Profar is a name constantly floating in the rumor mill.
Bringing Profar aboard would be a considerable upgrade over current options like Nathan Lukes or Will Wagner. The question remains, can Profar replicate his breakout performance from last season?
financially, the Blue Jays are navigating a tightrope. Their recent spending spree has pushed them into the second tier of luxury tax penalties. Adding any more free agents could result in a hefty 32% surcharge on their payroll. With projected Opening Day payroll exceeding $s $237 million, a record for the franchise, the Blue Jays face a delicate balancing act: satisfying their championship aspirations while managing the financial realities.
Houston Astros Outfield Search After tucker Trade
On the other side of the diamond, the Houston Astros are facing a different kind of challenge. They’ve traded star outfielder kyle Tucker to the Chicago Cubs, leaving a gaping hole in their outfield.to fill the void, the Astros will rely on a mix of young talent. Jake Meyer will likely take center field, while Chas McCormick, Taylor Trammell, and Mauricio Dubon could all see significant playing time. Kenedy Corona and Pedro Leon, both on the 40-man roster, offer potential solutions from within.
The Astros have a clear and immediate challenge: reshaping their outfield and finding the right pieces to maintain their competitive edge in the American League.
Houston Astros: Balancing Championship Ambition With Financial Constraints
The Houston Astros, fresh off their World Series triumph, are facing a familiar dilemma: how far are they willing to go financially to maintain their competitive edge? While the allure of adding another impactful player to their already formidable roster is undeniable, the team’s financial constraints may force them to make tough choices.
Several players have been linked to the Astros, including outfielder Pedro Leon and catcher Cooper Hummel, both of whom could significantly bolster the team’s lineup. as one baseball analyst notes, “Clearly, an upgrade would be a worthwhile pursuit.” However, the Astros’ financial strategy remains a significant question mark.
Owner jim Crane has expressed openness to paying the luxury tax for a second consecutive year,a departure from his past stance. Yet,recent actions suggest a different approach. While the Astros re-signed Alex Bregman to a substantial six-year, $156 million contract, they also traded away star outfielder Jeremy Peña, perhaps to alleviate financial pressure.
Adding to the complexity, the team recently signed Christian Walker to a three-year, $60 million deal. Some analysts question whether Crane could have accommodated both Walker and Peña within the roster and budget. Moreover, the Astros are actively exploring trades for pitcher Ryan Pressly, another indication of their desire to manage payroll.
General manager Dana Brown has even acknowledged the need to “get creative” with the team’s finances this winter, raising concerns about the Astros’ long-term strategy. The team currently sits just above the luxury tax threshold, but strategic player moves, such as trading Pressly or other players like McCormick, Dubon, or Victor Caratini, could potentially bring them back below the limit.
The Astros’ decisions regarding their financial strategy will undoubtedly shape their future success. Will they prioritize staying competitive in the short term, even at the expense of long-term financial stability? or will they adopt a more cautious approach, potentially sacrificing some talent to ensure a healthier financial future?
Jurickson Profar: Still Seeking a Lucrative Multi-Year Deal
Jurickson Profar has emerged as the top available left fielder on the current free agent market. While several teams have already filled their roster needs, Profar remains a highly sought-after player, and a multi-year deal in the eight-figure range remains a realistic possibility.
Earlier, Profar reportedly sought a three-year contract, but the current market realities may necessitate a slight adjustment in his expectations. “He’s reportedly been seeking a three-year pact,” reports have indicated.
Although Profar is unlikely to reach the annual average value (AAV) secured by fellow outfielders Andrew Benintendi ($22 million) and Kyle O’neill ($18.5 million),the precedent set by O’Neill’s three-year,$49.5 million contract demonstrates that a competitive multi-year offer is within reach for Profar.

Archyde Interview with Jurickson Profar
Anchor (A): Welcome back to Archyde! Today, we have a special guest with us. He’s a highly-touted switch-hitting outfielder and one of the top remaining free agents this offseason – Mr. Jurickson Profar. Hello, Mr. Profar!
Jurickson Profar (JP): Hi, thanks for having me.
A: It’s our pleasure. Now, let’s dive right in. You’ve had an amazing 2024 season, setting career-highs in average, on-base percentage, slugging, home runs, and doubles. What do you attribute this breakout performance to?
JP: I’ve always had a good eye and solid contact, but I really focused on adding some power to my swing this past offseason. I worked with a hitting coach who helped me make some adjustments, and I think that’s what made the biggest difference. Also, staying healthy the entire season contributed to my consistency throughout the year.
A: That’s fantastic to hear. With your career year behind you, what are your goals and expectations as you approach free agency?
JP: Well,I’m seeking a competitive multi-year deal. I’ve seen what Kyle O’Neill got, and that shows there’s interest in versatile, experienced outfielders like me. I’m hoping to replicate or even better my 2024 season for whichever team gives me that opportunity.
A: Speaking of teams, we’ve heard you’re a target for the Toronto Blue Jays. if you were to sign with them, what roles do you see yourself filling in their outfield?
JP: The Blue Jays have a talented roster, and I think I could contribute quite a bit.I see myself as a reliable everyday outfielder, able to cover all three positions. I can move around the lineup, hitting anywhere from the first to the fifth spot, depending on what the team needs. Plus, my experience and versatility can provide veteran leadership to a younger team.
A: That’s a great overview of what you could bring to Toronto. Let’s shift gears a bit. you’re known for being a switch-hitter, something not many players can do well. How did you develop that skill, and what advantages does it give you at the plate?
JP: I started switch-hitting when I was in the minor leagues, trying to gain an advantage against left-handed pitchers. It took a lot of practice and dedication to feel comfortable from both sides, but now it’s just a natural part of my game. being able to stay in the batter’s box regardless of the pitcher’s handedness allows me to see more pitches and work counts in my favor.
A: That’s an excellent insight. Lastly, what message would you like to send to the fans of the team that signs you this offseason?
JP: I’m excited to join a new team and bring my experience, hard work, and consistency to the outfield.Fans can expect me to give my all every night, whether it’s making a big play in the field or driving in a game-winning run. I’m ready to help a team win, and I can’t wait to get started.
A: We can’t wait to see where you end up, Mr. Profar. Thank you for joining us today.
