Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider announced Monday that pitcher Zach Pop has suffered hamstring pain and is being re-evaluated.
Pop, a 26-year-old Brampton, Ont., native, appeared in 15 games for the Blue Jays this season, posting a 6.59 ERA and 13 strikeouts in 13.2 innings. .
Former Miami Marlins, Pop was acquired by the Blue Jays last season along with Anthony Bass, in exchange for Jordan Groshans.
As for Toronto receiver Danny Jansen, he is on the right track following suffering a groin injury.
Jansen, 28, was drafted in the 16th round (475) of the 2013 MLB Draft and is in his sixth season with the Blue Jays (2018-23). In 36 games, the native of Elmhurst, Ill. had 25 hits, 16 runs scored and six home runs with a .207 batting percentage.
Soroka at AAA level
Atlanta Braves right-hander Michael Soroka, who averaged 8.38 in two starts in his return from two tears in his right Achilles tendon, was traded to Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday.
The decision came following Soroka allowed five runs and seven hits over three and two-thirds innings in Atlanta’s 8-5 win at Arizona on Sunday. All of Soroka’s runs have come with two outs. After the game, he said, “That’s not quite me.”
Soroka, voted All-Star as a rookie in 2019, was the starter in Atlanta’s 2020 opener before suffering his first Achilles tendon tear early in the season. He had to undergo a follow-up procedure before suffering a second tear in 2021.
The Braves did not immediately announce who would replace Soroka in the rotation. One option might be rookie AJ Smith-Shawver, who pitched two-and-a-third scoreless innings, in relief in his Sunday debut.
The Braves also claimed infielder Lucas Williams from the Los Angeles Dodgers and traded him to Gwinnett. To make room on the 40-man roster, left-hander Max Fried was moved to the 60-day injured list.
