[Herald Economic = Reporter Kim Bit-na] On the 28th (local time), Bloomberg News reported, citing sources, that Apple will not be able to launch the artificial intelligence (AI) feature ‘Apple Intelligence’ simultaneously with the new iPhone operating system release, and it is expected to be available about a month later.

According to the report, Apple plans to initially release the new iPhone operating systems, iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, in September, with the AI features set to roll out as part of a software update in October.

Consequently, the first iPhone 16 models shipped to consumers this year will likely not include the new AI features and will require a software update a few weeks later, according to Bloomberg.

The expected release date for the iPhone 16 is sometime in September.

However, Apple plans to allow software developers to begin early testing of Apple Intelligence as early as this week with the beta versions of iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1, Bloomberg’s sources added.

This move is unusual for Apple, as it typically does not release new software to developers before the official launch. Media analysts suggest this is an attempt to gain developer support, enabling broader testing of AI functions and fixing issues before public release.

Bloomberg explained, “Apple missed the deadline to update its iPhone and iPad software to integrate AI features, but it will gain additional time to resolve bugs.”

Apple announced its AI strategy, Apple Intelligence, at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in early June and revealed plans to include generative AI functions in new software updates, such as iOS, within the year.

In a recent report by Bloomberg News, it has been disclosed that Apple will be launching its new iPhone operating system, iOS 18, without its much-anticipated AI feature, dubbed ‘Apple Intelligence’. This delay, originating from the company’s need to perfect its software, is expected to push the rollout of AI capabilities to October, a month after the initial iOS 18 release planned for September.

The Timeline of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 Release

According to reliable sources, Apple enthusiasts can expect the iPhone 16 models to hit the market in September, albeit lacking the promised AI functionalities. Here’s a concise timeline of the key dates:

Event Date
iPhone 16 Release September 2024
Launch of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 September 2024
Release of AI features (Apple Intelligence) Expected October 2024
Developer Beta Testing Begins Late July 2024

Developer Beta Testing of Apple Intelligence

In an unusual move, Apple has decided to allow developers early access to the beta versions of iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1, potentially as early as this week. This initiative could be a strategic effort by Apple to garner developer input and support for testing its new AI functionalities rigorously before the public launch.

The Benefits of Developer Involvement
