Bloody Stephen King horror follows “Longlegs”: The first trailer for “The Monkey”

“Longlegs” with Nicolas Cage has just been released in German cinemas, and director Oz Perkins already has his next work ready. “The Monkey” is an adaptation of a horror story by Stephen King. Here is the first teaser trailer:

The first teaser trailer for “The Monkey” doesn’t reveal much – we just see “The Gentlemen” star Theo James covered in a lot of blood. The eponymous, terrifying toy monkey is mainly noticeable on the soundtrack. But even this short preview should make you curious.

After all, director Oz Perkins is on everyone’s lips at the moment. His outstanding film “Longlegs” has been thrilling audiences in US cinemas for weeks and was released in Germany a few days ago. He is now even being supported in his new horror film by successful producer James Wan, the creator of horror series such as “The Conjuring”, “Insidious” and “Saw”. And then “The Monkey” is also an adaptation of a work by the horror master par excellence. The original is a short story by Stephen King.

This is “The Monkey”

In “The Monkey,” twin brothers Hal and Bill find an old toy monkey in the attic that once belonged to their father. They enthusiastically play with the monkey, but when deaths occur in their environment, they have a terrible feeling: does someone always have to die when the monkey bangs its cymbals together? The brothers try to get rid of the toy and forget the whole thing. But years later, events catch up with them…

“The Gentlemen” star Theo James is set to play the two brothers in a dual role, and Elijah Wood, Tatiana Maslany and Christian Convery are also in the cast. But according to Perkins, you shouldn’t expect a second “Longlegs”: “It will feel more like ‘Misery‘ or ,Creepshow‘ or ,Gremlins‘ or ,American Werewolf‘. It couldn’t be less like ‘Longlegs’! When you make a film about a toy monkey, I don’t think you can take it too seriously. But so much of King’s work is funny and nostalgic,” the director explained in the past.

There is currently no German release date for “The Monkey”. The US release date is February 21, 2025, so hopefully the German release won’t be too many weeks later.
