After the killing of a 33-year-old on Saturday in Strasshof an der Nordbahn (Gänserndorf district), the alleged perpetrator was taken to the local prison on the orders of the Korneuburg public prosecutor’s office. The investigation into the crime and motive was still ongoing. The murder weapon, a pistol, was confiscated in the confessor’s car, according to a statement from the Lower Austria State Police Directorate on Sunday.
The 35-year-old is said to have shot his former partner on the street in front of her house at around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Witnesses informed the emergency services that, despite resuscitation measures being taken immediately, the 33-year-old died at the scene. The suspect, who no longer lived with the woman, fled, but a short time later turned himself in at the Deutsch-Wagram police station and was arrested there.
The weapon was then found in the 35-year-old’s car and he was taken to the Korneuburg prison. The public prosecutor also ordered an autopsy of the body. The investigation and interviews were still ongoing on Sunday, it was said.
Maria Rösslhumer, managing director of the AÖF association and coordinator of “StoP districts without partner violence”, missed an “outcry from the government” in view of the 22nd femicide in Austria this year. The government’s silence on the recent murders of women is “protection of perpetrators and a form of contempt for women,” said Rösslhumer in a broadcast. The association called for an immediate overall strategy and the establishment of “StoP” in all communities.
