Bloodshed in civil construction: Another leader is murdered in less than 24 hours

 The victim was a founder of the Southern Cone Civil Construction Workers and the “Hubert Lanssiers Dirix” Union and was attacked while he was going to the market on a motorcycle.
 Secretary General of the FTCCP, Luis Villanueva, attributed the crime of Arturo Cárdenas the day before to extortion gangs and announced a mobilization for August 20.

ON THURSDAY IT WAS Arturo Cárdenas in La Victoria and yesterday Américo Camilo in SJM. The number of victims has reached 25 to date.

The bloodbath continues. In less than 24 hours, a new Construction Workers leader was murdered. This time it was in the Miguel Grau park in San Juan de Miraflores. The victim was identified as Américo Román Camilo Gonzales Palomino, a construction workers leader and founder of the Construction Workers of the Southern Cone and the ‘Hubert Lanssiers Dirix’ union.
THE ATTACK
The criminals attacked him while he was riding his motorcycle. Witnesses took him to the María Auxiliadora Hospital after the attack, but he arrived dead despite the efforts of his family. According to those close to the leader, he left his home heading for the market, but died after meeting his executioners a few meters away from his home. Images from security cameras in the area showed how these criminals intercepted Gonzales Palomino in the San Juan de Miraflores sector. It can also be seen that the subject who attacked Américo Román stumbled after committing the murder and dropped the weapon with which he attacked his victim, so he had to run to escape on the motorcycle driven by his accomplice.

SECOND CRIME
As is known, this is the second crime linked to a construction leader in less than 24 hours, since, a day earlier, on Thursday 15th in La Victoria, a similar crime was reported against Arturo Cárdenas, general secretary of the Construction Workers Union of Lima and Balnearios.
Cárdenas’ wife, Delia Nevado, lamented the lack of protection her husband received despite the risks associated with his position, and asked the authorities to act quickly to identify and punish those responsible for the crime.
According to Nevado, Cardenas’ remains will be laid to rest at his home in Carabayllo once they are released from the morgue. Associations such as the CGTP, the National Confederation of Private Business Institutions (Confiep) and the National Society of Industries also raised their voices and condemned cowardly attacks, demanding more security from the Government.

“The government is taking a soft hand against criminal gangs”

SECRETARY OF THE FTCCP LUIS VILLANUEVA
ANNOUNCES MOBILIZATION AND DEMANDS MEASURES
FORCEFUL AGAINST PSEUDO UNIONS

The general secretary of the Federation of Civil Construction Workers of Peru (FTCCP), Luis Villanueva, attributed the recent attack
The opposition of Arturo Cárdenas, general secretary of the Lima and Spas Construction Workers Union, to the bidding for 14 bicentennial schools. Villanueva claimed that these projects, previously coordinated to include the presence of the union base led by Cárdenas, would have motivated reprisals by criminal gangs seeking to control the works in order to extort businessmen and sell jobs. According to Villanueva, the sole complaint of threats made by Cárdenas was not enough to prevent his murder.

The union leader also criticized the government’s lack of effective measures in the fight against organized crime, noting that “a lot of softness” and the absence of a clear state policy have allowed these organizations to take over strategic sectors such as civil construction. Villanueva stressed that, despite constant government promises, insecurity continues to claim the lives of union leaders, as demonstrated by the 25 murders that have occurred since 2011, five of them so far in 2024.

In light of this situation, the FTCCP has called for a mobilization on August 20, demanding that the Government take strong measures against the “pseudo-unions” that operate as fronts for organized crime.
