Bloodlines and Football Frenzy: The Tragic Tale of a Fallen Ultras Leader

The leader of an ultra group of champions Inter Milan, Andrea Beretta (49), has confessed to a fatal knife attack on Antonio Bellocco (36), but claims to have acted in self-defense. Beretta was arrested on Wednesday evening. The victim was also part of the fan scene and a member of a powerful family of the ‘Ndrangheta, the mafia in the southern Italian region of Calabria.

The arrested man is in Milan’s San Raffaele hospital with injuries, Italian media reported. According to his lawyer, Bellocco first wounded him in the leg with a gun. He then defended himself with a knife. The victim was killed by stab wounds to the neck. This was preceded by an argument between the two men, who were travelling together in a car in the Milan suburb of Cernusco sul Naviglio.

Feuds between rival fan groups in Milan are not uncommon. The police now fear revenge attacks. The public prosecutor investigating the case, Paolo Storari, specializes in the area of organized crime.
