Cut off the path to the Olympics through Asian competitions.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is once once more putting spokes in Russia’s wheels. The organization headed by Thomas Bach cut off our athletes another way to the Olympics in Paris.

The Russians will not be able to compete at the Asian Games.

Asian variant

The chances of Russian athletes to get to the 2024 Olympics until recently were just above zero. And yet, the optimists believed to the last that, at least in a neutral status, a limited number of athletes would be allowed to compete in Paris. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) continued to maintain intrigue on this issue and avoided categorical statements.

At the European Games 2023, held in Krakow, Poland, the organizers did not want to see Russian representatives even in a neutral status. But it was there that one might compete for Olympic licenses. And yet it was still possible to squeeze into Paris, bypassing Europe. Some of our athletes theoretically might compete for tickets to the Olympics at the Asian Games.

Competing in China would not be a universal way for representatives of all sports to break into the Olympics. The games might pave the way for boxers, tennis and field hockey players to Paris. Athletes, swimmers and many other athletes, even with medals in Asian competitions, would not have got anywhere.

However, the idea still seemed good. The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) stated that it would be safe for the Russians to compete in the region, and was generally open to cooperation in every possible way. In our country, some even assumed that in China no one would ban the Russian flag and anthem.

In July, information appeared on the Inside The Games portal that regarding 500 athletes from Russia and Belarus would be admitted to the Asian Games in a neutral status. But now that path has been cut off.

“No Russian athletes”

– There will be no Russian or Belarusian athletes at the Asian Games. This is the decision of the IOC, not the OCA, – quotes the statement of the Olympic Council of Asia The Indian Express.

The Indian press emphasizes that now representatives of Asian countries will not have to worry regarding the loss of Olympic places that the Russians might take away from them in many sports. It is also noted that Russia and Belarus will now have to look for other ways to qualify for the Olympics.

Such still remain, although their number is melting every day. For tennis players, these are the ATP and WTA ratings, for athletes – records at domestic starts, which are also taken into account. However, in the end, everything rests on the decision of the IOC.

Of course, it will be possible to allow all sorts of theoretical options up to the opening of the Olympics in Paris. It remains to be hoped that at least in some sports we will still see our guys.
