Blockade against Disney+, Max and MercadoLibre websites lifted

This Tuesday, the NGO AND sin Filter announced that Cantv had lifted the blockade that prevented the state-owned company’s internet customers from accessing a group of web pages, Among them were entertainment sites linked to the streaming platforms Disney+ and Max.

In a post on social media, the NGO explained that after its complaint tracking a blockage of the *cloudfront∙net subdomains, Cantv lifted the restrictions “which were affecting a huge number of websites and digital platforms, blocking them for users of the most important ISP in Venezuela”.

According to VE sin Filtro, the state-owned company’s action had a direct impact on portals such as Binance, MercadoLibre, LA Times, Disney+ and Amazon Prime Videoamong others.

Regarding what motivated Cantv to act in this way, it was detailed that “It is not clear what website they were trying to block that resulted in this widespread blocking of CloudFront.”.

On August 9, it was also reported blocking Microsoft services such as Teams and Outlook email. A day earlier, the Signal app was also blocked on most internet providers in the country.

These blockages join the censorship actions by the administration of Nicolás Maduro, who recently ordered the 10-day restriction on social network Xformerly called Twitter.
