First of all, the resignation of Iliopoulos in favor of Kasselakis was a piece of information that saw the light of day in some media – including the “Free Press” – a few months ago, but Stefanos Kasselakis categorically denied it and protested about fake news. So much for the man’s credibility…
In essence, what is happening today in SYRIZA, could not happen in any normal party of the European parliamentary democracy. That is, if a member of parliament resigned in favor of the leader of the party in order for him to become a member of the Parliament, because he is extra-parliamentary, no party in Europe would have a problem. They would all do what they had to do in time dt so that their leader could enter the House and strengthen his voice and role.
In SYRIZA, however, nothing is self-evident and the resignation of Iliopoulos is viewed by the “Kasselakians” as a move – a trap by Alexis Tsipras to show that Kasselakis does not have the acceptance he believes in the party and by the “Tsiprians” as proof that the Kasselakis neither controls nor guides his party.
Here we are, not much can be done.
Whether Popi Tsapanidou and Michalis Kalogirou (both close associates of Alexis Tsipras) successively renounce the right to take the seat, so that Evgenia Livadarou and Thanasis Tsakris (who is no longer in SYRIZA) will naturally do the same, and the burden to fall to Georgetta Lali, who has joined the New Left.
Either Popi Tsapanidou, with the consent of Alexis Tsipras, holds the seat, which means that everyone will expect Kasselakis’ move. Who will either do nothing while waiting for the settlement of accounts at the October conference, or will react immediately with deletions and ask for reconfirmation of his role at the Congress or even from the grassroots.
It is recalled that when the press – led by Mr. Kasselakis and Koumoundourou – revealed the matter a few months ago, Mrs. Lali appeared determined to take the seat. But now, after the European elections and the 2.4% of the New Left, Mr. Kasselakis’s Koumoundourou conveys that things have changed and if Ms. Tsapanidou is convinced and the “carousel” of concessions begins, then the headquarters must naturally end up with Mr. Kasselakis.
The trolls got to work
Koumoundourou is in a difficult position and cannot hide her embarrassment. On the one hand, he leaks for mild pressure on Tsapanidou and Kalogirou, and on the other hand, he has the trolls he controls on the Internet attack the runners-up (including Popi Tsapanidou and Mich. Kalogirou) who have not yet waived their rights.
There are no indications from Ms. Tsapanidou and Mr. Kalogirou, but it is certain that they will not do anything that Mr. Tsipras does not agree with (or has not instructed them to do). Mrs. Livadarou remains a member of SYRIZA, but she will hardly carry such a burden on her shoulders, while Mr. Tsakris is a member of “Kosmos”. About Mrs. Lali, we have said enough.
