Publisher and developer Blizzard Entertainment in an interview with the portal Eurogamer called the exact day of shutting down the servers of his popular multiplayer team shooter Overwatch.
That the original Overwatch will give way to its own shareware sequel at the start of its early access, Blizzard told back in June, but the details of the transition have not been disclosed until recently.
As it became known, Blizzard is going to disable Overwatch regarding a day before the launch of Overwatch 2 – that is, October 2-3 (depending on the time zone). Then there will be 27 hours of downtime before the start of the servers of the second part.
“That means, as a practical matter, October 2nd will be the last day to log in and play Overwatch.”– said Jon Spector, commercial director and vice president of the Overwatch franchise.
Blizzard will allow players to download Overwatch 2 in advance. The company will also ask users to take several actions in preparation for the launch of the sequel. Which ones, will be told later.
Early Access and the first season of Overwatch 2 launch October 4 on PC (Battle.net), PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, and Nintendo Switch. In Game there will be no loot boxes, but there will be a battle pass.
Today, September 15th, Blizzard has confirmed the arrival of Kiriko in Overwatch 2. Starting with it, all new heroes will need to be unlocked through battle pass promotion (the premium version unlocks the character immediately).
