Greens: Condolences go out to his family and his many colleagues and friends
Vienna (OTS) – “Teddy Podgorski was the embodiment of public broadcasting in a brilliant way. Like hardly anyone else, as a journalist, broadcaster, presenter and finally as general director, he has succeeded in making the ORF stand out to the highest degree in all of its formats. He was the one who not only gave ‘Zeit im Bild’ its name, but also led it as managing editor to become the most important news program in the country, which it remains to this day. He was the one who managed to repeatedly implement ideas into new formats in almost all areas. Be it sport with the sports panorama, or ‘Seinerzeit’ with old film clips, stories and popular local stars. But the program ‘Heimat Fremde Heimat’, which is still important and widely watched to this day, is also credited to him,” says Eva Blimlinger, media spokeswoman for the Green Party, dismayed by the death of this extraordinary person.
Podgorski was one of those who recognized early on that on the one hand it was regarding regionalization with the programs ‘Federal State Today’ and, on the other hand, regarding internationalization with the expansion of the programs on 3sat and the cooperation with Eastern European broadcasters. Podgorski also demonstrated his versatility in other areas. For example, he will remain as Gestapo agent Pfalzner in ‘The Bockerer’ by Franz Antel.
The extremely humorous Podgorski also had a great passion for the bizarre: “Together with Helmut Qualtinger and other companions, one or two ‘Practical Jokes’ were concocted in the legendary Gutruf restaurant. Some of this can be read in his recommended book ‘Stories from the Ambush’,” Blimlinger concluded.
