After the EM-Out, Nati-Captain Lia Wälti reveals that teammate Fabienne Humm was still working during the EM in England. “Fabi is back in the room following the training sessions to work,” she says. “It is not a matter of course that she takes on this effort.”
On Sunday, the national team flies out of the tournament following the defeat once morest Holland, on Monday evening back to Switzerland. Humm is already in the office on Tuesday morning. The Nati striker, who was used once morest Portugal and Sweden, works 100% as a logistics clerk at the company “Display LC AG” in Lassenstorf AG. She started her apprenticeship here in 2003 and is still working here. «Next year I have my 20th anniversary. I do hope that there will be a gift, »says Humm and laughs.
Humm: “It’s true for me: football is my hobby!”
She knows that it is a gift to have such a tolerant employer. “Here I can balance football and work,” says the 74-time Nati player when Blick visits her. She records orders, takes care of customers, delivers materials and manages the warehouse. “I enjoy my work,” she says. In the evening we go to training. She has been storming for FCZ for 13 years, she is captain and record goalscorer. Work. Football. Work. Football. But Humm doesn’t want pity or complaints. “Things are going great. I chose it myself – and it’s true for me. Football is my hobby.”
She had opportunities to turn pro. There have been enough offers: from the Bundesliga, a particularly lucrative one even from China. But Humm never wanted to leave. “I like being at home, I like being here in the office and I like being at the FCZ. I get homesick easily. I don’t know if I would still enjoy football as much if I had to play football to earn money for rent and food.” The money she now earns is barely enough to cover her gas costs.
Humm worked around 45 hours during the European Championship
And how was it at the European Championships in England? Did she really have to work on the side? “Actually, I took unpaid vacation. But I knew that during the holiday season many are away and there is a lot to do. I was happy to help.” She spent around 45 hours in England for the office. An hour before breakfast, then following lunch and in the evening. “It wasn’t a problem. We’ve known since Corona that home office can work well.”
By the way, your “office-gspänlis” have long been Nati fans. «Actually, a EM trip with a larger German customer was planned. This had to be canceled at short notice.”
Maybe their employees will get another opportunity: Humm and her national team colleagues are still in the running for a place at next year’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
