On the occasion of the release of his new novel, the writer Jacques Attali gave Tout un monde his vision of the system in which we live, which he compared to “a plane which not only has no pilot , but also no cockpit. The author called for global cooperation, particularly on climate.
French author Jacques Attali, also a business leader and former special advisor to President François Mitterrand, was the guest on Thursday on the show Tout un monde as part of the release of his new book “Blessed be our world” , published by Flammarion.
The dystopian novel describes “a period that is both very close in time and extremely plausible in terms of its events, but at the same time absolutely cataclysmic in terms of change compared to today”, summarized the author at the RTS microphone.
“We are living in a time of extreme acceleration in history where changes can crystallize that might be decisive for the next fifty years. I wanted to show what was possible to see happen and, in response, what certain extremists – in the good sense of the word – can try to change that,” he continued.
The book thus questions the possibility of changing the world and attempts to outline ways of doing so. According to Jacques Attali, this requires political action and personal action.
A system “no longer controlled at all”
The writer believes that there is no real “identifiable dark”. “In a way, the dark ones represent each of us, in our daily behavior towards our loved ones, our neighbors, in what we consume and what we buy. There are lots of things that make us dark and which means that we must act once morest ourselves if we want to win this battle,” he stressed.
The lack of power of leaders is particularly criticized by the novel. “We are in a huge system, no longer controlled at all, over which there is no one who has real power. We are in a plane which not only has no pilot, but which also has no cockpit and, in a way, no engine. A sort of glider caught in the storm”, insisted Jacques Attali.
In his eyes, we must now create this “pilot cabin” on a global scale, in the same way as is done in sport, on themes such as health, disarmament or climate.
A possible happy world
For Jacques Attali, a happy world, “altruistic, peaceful and free of hatred, envy and jealousy”, is indeed possible.
Hope currently lies in technical progress, affirms the Frenchman, who believes that “the problem of water, food and climate are today within the reach of science”, but also in taking action. awareness of the importance of cooperation and fraternity as well as in education.
