Bleach est a Shonen-type manga (an editorial line mainly targeting adolescents and young males) released in France by Glénat editions. With 74 bound volumes (or tankobon), the series has sold 130 million copies since its launch, making it the twelfth best-selling manga of all time behind One Piece, Golgo 13, Dragon Ball, Naruto , Detective Conan, Doraemon, Black Jack, Slam Dunk, KochiKame, Demon Slayer and Crayon Shin-Chan. In particular, he is ahead in the ranking of works such as Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, Attack on Titan, Ken the Survivor or Astro, the little robot and Ippo.
Bleach fut adapted into an animated series three years after his first steps in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump. The Pierrot studios produced in the space of eight years 366 episodes (including fillers), 2 OAVs and 4 films. A live-action feature film directed by Shinsuke Satō (Death Note: Light Up in the New World, Kingdom, Alice in Borderland) also saw the light of day in 2018 starring Sota Fukushi, Hana Sugisaki, Erina Mano and Ryo Yoshizawa. On French territory, this Live Action adaptation, which received a rather positive reception from the press and the general public with 71% and 76% respectively on Rotten Tomatoes, is available exclusively on Netflix.
Bleach tells the story of a young teenager living with his father and two sisters in the city of Karakura who has the particularity of seeing ghosts. This gift is at the origin of his meeting with a guardian of souls from a parallel dimension and responsible for purifying the corrupt souls wandering on Earth.
