Both newly promoted Blau-Weiß Linz and Wolfsberger AC are still waiting for their first win in the lower play-off following the first two matchdays. In a direct duel, this should finally be successful for one of the two teams, which pursue completely different goals.

In the third round of the qualifying group, Blau-Weiß Linz and WAC are aiming for their first victory on Saturday (7:30 p.m.). While the Upper Austrians have been without a win in the Bundesliga for ten games, the Carinthians have been waiting for a complete success for four games. For Gerald Scheiblehner’s team, it’s regarding increasing the gap of five points to bottom team Lustenau; Manfred Schmid’s team is one point behind leaders Austria Vienna.

Qualifying group – 25th matchday

The newcomer from Linz has only scored one goal in the last five games; last week there was only a goalless draw once morest Vienna Austria despite being in the majority for almost 80 minutes. “The focus in training this week was on scoring goals. We obviously have problems there, you don’t have to be a great expert to recognize that. We create a lot of chances, but don’t convert them,” explained Scheiblehner.

Schmid calls for braver performances from his team

After two draws in a row, the coach is hoping for a better result. “We have already shown that we can beat the WAC. I wouldn’t be satisfied with one point, we want to win the game,” emphasized Scheiblehner. Wolfsberg won the first duel 2-1 in July, and Linz won 2-0 in October.

This is also why WAC coach Manfred Schmid has a lot of credit for the opponent. “The game won’t be a sure-fire success. They should have won once morest Austria last week. I have a lot of respect for the team, even if the results haven’t been right recently. We have to play with 100 percent,” said the Viennese.

Schmid wasn’t really happy with his team’s recent performances. “We want to present ourselves better than in the last games.” His team needs to become more determined, braver and better in the final third. In the first two games in the qualifying group once morest WSG Tirol (1:1) and Altach (0:0), the Lavanttal team drew each.

Schmid’s goal is to take something tangible from Linz. “The best thing is three points. We’ve had the chance to win in every game since the division and didn’t take advantage of it. But we still always scored points, which says something regarding our quality,” he explained. He will most likely have to do without Florian Rieder, and top scorer Augustine Boakye is also injured and therefore questionable.
