Good morning from Virginia. As every year, a small report from us from our beautiful homeland, the USA. Unfortunately, the year 2022 was very rare in highlights. But one was definitely a visit from one of my best friends from high school. That was 25 years ago, abnormal how time flies! He flew to us in the Commonwealth for the first time in the summer and we showed him a bit of our homeland.
Visits to US restaurants and malls
In addition to the capital with the National Mall, the surrounding area with the mansions was also worth a visit. Of course, we also visited some malls and US restaurants. Standard tourist program for every German. We celebrated Independence Day together with our friends, with a pool, BBQ and a big personal fireworks display. It doesn’t get any better! Many hundreds of miles on the road to destinations like Philadelphia and Rocky and Atlantic City followed. The Big Apple finished it off.
We shot through the streets of Manhattan in my V8 convertible and enjoyed our time together. Shopping, 90’s Black Music and the Fifth Rooftop Bar to name a few. In addition to the normal tourist destinations, I also showed him the surrounding districts outside of Manhattan, which are very difficult to reach without a car. It was just a great time! We are very happy if you come back. Love you Sebi!
My wife spent a few weeks in Germany this summer because, among other things, her little nephew Romeo started school. A “must go” event, but unfortunately I mightn’t attend this great event due to work. A small consolation were the many videos and pictures, and that made me feel “present”. Dear Romeo, I look forward to many interesting stories regarding your new phase of life when we meet once more soon. Meanwhile, I spent my summer at work, by the pool and in a convertible on the streets of the USA. Yesterday we celebrated my birthday with our clique and it was a highlight once more. The group is just fun. We laughed, drank, ate and planned our joint pre-Christmas trip to Germany and Europe in 2024.
Thanksgiving begins a road trip
Can’t say it enough, we love you guys. Thanksgiving is next week and my wife and I are starting our vacation and another road trip that day. Among other things, we will visit our friends in Florida and escape the cool season in Virginia. Since Olli has season tickets for the Buccaneers, I’ll probably attend an NFL game once more.
This time I also manage to sing karaoke with wrestling legend Hulk Hogan at his bar in Clearwater. In a month it will be Christmas once more, and my parents are coming to visit, because unfortunately I won’t be able to travel to my home country this year either. That makes me sad because I would have loved to see my friends in Germany once more. But postponed is not canceled, because the plan is for summer 2024.
Christmas in Germany
So folks, fire up the grill! But I am very happy to see my parents once more and we will have a good time once more this year. I’m proud that my parents are still so fond of traveling and take the trip to the USA every year. Maybe you should also move to the USA, would definitely not be the wrong step if you follow the cruel developments in Germany. My wife, on the other hand, is flying home alone once more this year and is spending Christmas with her family and will use the time to see her friends once more. With this in mind, we wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. During this time, forget the negative events in the world and devote yourself entirely to your loved ones!
Greetings from Loudoun County, VA Björn and Marleen
