This Wednesday evening, Blankenberge beach was hit by strong winds, combined with the (very) high tide. This gave rise to flying deckchairs and impressive scenes, indicate our colleagues from HLN.
The staff of the beach bars went in search this Thursday morning of their deckchairs and other equipment which flew away following the bad weather which took place in Blankenberge. “I think regarding 50 seats have gone,” says Matty Creus, manager of the “King Beach”.
“The sea is very close here. This has never happened to us before, but I have seen it with colleagues. It is a force of nature once morest which we are not up to it, ”he adds.
The sea water having risen to a height higher than normal, with the strong westerly wind, everything flew away. “The water arrived regarding eight meters further than normal”, explains Ralph Dobbelaere, of “Karma Beach”, to our colleagues from Nieuwsblad. “This time around 40 beach beds were washed away, including mattresses. Some beds have even reached the Zeebrugge surf club. For us, it is now a matter of measuring the damage and cleaning everything up once more. Because there is an awkward layer of foam on the cushions,” he adds.
