Blake Lively Confirms Role as Lady Deadpool in Upcoming Film, Reflects on Superhero Journey with Ryan Reynolds

Although it was already an open secret, actress Blake Lively confirmed on Instagram that she played Lady Deadpool in the movie Deadpool and Wolverine. For those who do not know or do not remember, it is worth mentioning that Lively is the wife of Ryan Reynolds, the lead actor.

In her post, Lively recalled her first superhero movie with Reynolds, which was Green Lantern in 2011. Even back then, Reynolds was talking about Deadpool.

In 2010, I was on Gossip Girl and was about to shoot my first superhero movie, Green Lantern, with my kind Canadian co-star, Ryan Reynolds. He talked to me, our other co-star, another rookie superhero, Taika Waititi, and all of us about Deadpool for the first time. He was a meta superhero. Most of us didn’t exactly know what meta meant back then. Except Taika, because he has always been brighter than the rest of us mere mortals.

The actress thought there would never be a Deadpool movie.

We understood it in theory, but how it would concretize for the audience was murky, for everyone but him. It wasn’t a real dream. The movie was never going to happen.

Lively later talked about a post by Rob Liefeld, the creator of Deadpool, where he revealed that in 2010 he first removed Lady Deadpool’s mask in the comics and modeled her appearance after the actress. Therefore, being the first actress to play the character somehow completes the circle.

Right before all this, in 2010, Rob Liefeld drew Lady Deadpool without a mask for the first time. Deadpool wasn’t real. And Rob had no idea I was working with Ryan Reynolds. 12 years later, I read Rob’s post. A year after that, Deadpool 3 was filmed. And today it is in theaters. Sometimes, the universe has a magical sense of humor.
