“Blackouts will not increase in Cuba,” assures the UNE 2024-03-01 07:37:14

In the early hours of February 29, the CTE Antonio Guiteras of Matanzas will go out of service “in a controlled manner” to carry out “undelayable” maintenance. It is estimated that in 17 days, it can be incorporated into the National Electrical System once more.

For these purposes, a detailed preparation of the work to be undertaken was carried out to achieve efficiency and quality in the final result, the UNE stated in a use official.

According to the information, the departure date was determined based on having fuel in the Floating Patanas, the Mariel Site and the Moa Site starting today, which will incorporate a power greater than that which has CTE Guiteras today.

On the days that the Guiteras CTE will be out, it is forecast that the impact on maximum demand will be between 950 MW and 1000 MW, if the expected conditions continue.

Below is the update that the UNE technical director has provided on the departure of the Antonio Guiteras Thermoelectric Plant and the fuel supply in Cuba.

THE GUITERAS ARE COMING OUT IN CUBA

We plan to take out the Antonio Guiteras thermoelectric plant to carry out work on the boiler that we had planned for a long time. This intervention is essential and other work will be carried out during the period that it will be out of service, approximately 17 days.

We have explained in previous days that we have had a major unavailability of fuel at the floating plants and the Mariel and Moa sites.

However, today the fuel is arriving to the thermoelectric plant in the Mariel displacement and to the Mariel floating plants. We hope to have fuel here also at the floating plants in Havana on Friday.

Today, around noon, we will also begin the start-up of the Moa site, which we also had out of service.

We have prepared this coordination so that, with the departure of the Antonio Guiteras thermoelectric plant, the effects on the service do not increase.

The behavior we should have in the coming days with Guiteras out of service will be similar to what we have had in previous days.

There will be impacts on the service, but they will not increase due to the departure of the Antonio Guiteras thermoelectric plant, as long as the conditions in the rest of the plants are maintained. We do the planning considering the units that we have out for maintenance.
