Black Wings lost their first friendly match against Kassel 2:3 after a penalty shootout

The Black Wings started the test matches before the new ice hockey season with a lot of light and a few shadows. In the 2:3 after a penalty shootout against the German second division team Kassel, Philipp Lukas had to react not only to the (long-term) injury of Brodi Stuart, but also to the short-term absence of Emilio Romig. New signing Henrik Neubauer replaced Romig in the second row. The third forward formation was also rotated: Stefan Gaffal was allowed to play striker between Andreas Kristler and Brian Lebler instead of Julian Pusnik.

The committed Linz team started the game with a numerical disadvantage after just 21 seconds, but after overcoming the shorthanded situation they dominated the game. In the 16th minute, Logan Roe scored the well-deserved 1-0 for the home team.

The second period was a little more open in terms of chances. However, Linz knew how to manage the lead. In the 30th minute, Philipp Lukas brought on Thomas Höneckl for Rasmus Tirronen. After that, things got more physical: Black Wings newcomer Ian Scheid and Tom Geischeimer got into a tough tussle that ended with a 5-minute penalty for both.
