Klagenfurt opened the playoff pick and chose the Pioneers Vorarlberg. Immediately afterwards, Szekesfehervar decided on HC Pustertal. And Red Bull Salzburg ultimately chose the Black Wings. This left Villacher SV for HCB Südtirol.

For the Black Wings it is the fourth playoff series against the Eisbullen. All three previous series – the 2010 final, the 2014 semi-final and the 2018 semi-final – went to Salzburg.
