“Black Sea” presented the big surprise in the quarter-finals of the Bulgarian Cup, following eliminating CSKA following a 2:1 away victory. The team from Varna prevailed at the “Bulgarian Army” stadium and secured participation in the semi-finals, which is the first time for the team since 2015 d. Then “Black Sea” reached the trophy.
The guests opened in the 50th minute from a penalty, when Atanas Iliev scored. In the 65th, Thibaut Vion sent the ball into his own net.
The final score was shaped by another own goal. In the third minute of added time, Vlatko Drobarov surprised his goalkeeper in an attempt to clear.
For CSKA, the loss is the first in a home match of “Bulgarian Army” since October 2021, when in a match for the championship the reds conceded once morest “Lokomotiv” (Plovdiv). CSKA also missed a chance to participate in the final for the fourth year in a row.
“Black Sea” joins “Lokomotiv” (Sofia) and “Ludogorets”, which qualified in the semi-finals. Thursday is the last match of the quarter-finals, in which “Arda” and “CSKA 1948” play.
The “Bulgarian Army” match was marked by more fighting and few clear chances, especially before the break.
