The Hong Kong government issued a document at 23:44 pm, stating that it has been notified by the relevant authorities in Shenzhen that the Shenzhen Reservoir will discharge flood water at 00:00 tomorrow (September 8).

The Hong Kong government said that some areas in the New Territories may experience flooding. Relevant government departments, including North District Office, Drainage Services Department, Police Force, Fire Services Department, Water Supplies Department and Social Welfare Department have been notified so that they can take appropriate measures. Arrangements are now being made by the North District Office to notify residents of the district to take appropriate action.

The weather in Hong Kong deteriorated rapidly in the evening today (7th). The Observatory first issued a yellow rainstorm warning signal at 9:25 pm, but changed to a red rainstorm warning signal at 9:50 less than half an hour later. At 11:05pm today, the Observatory issued a black rainstorm warning signal.

The Observatory stated that heavy rain with an hourly rainfall of more than 70 millimeters has been recorded or is expected to occur in extensive areas of Hong Kong, and the rain may continue. The Observatory reminds that due to the heavy rain, there will be flash floods, and the river has flooded or may flood, and citizens should stay away from the river. Residents near the river should pay close attention to the weather conditions and consider evacuating if their residences may be flooded.

The Observatory issued a warning of heavy rain in some areas earlier. Among them, there was a special report of flooding in the northern New Territories. At one time, Sha Tau Kok area recorded more than 70 mm of rainfall, and many areas were severely flooded. Some citizens reported on the Internet that they saw cars floating. Some minibuses were stopped due to flooding.

Wen Qihua, director of New Territories North Community of New Directions, posted on Facebook that the areas of Datanghu Village, Laidong Village, Tangdu Village, Lujing Crossing, and Danshuikeng Village were flooded, and all vehicles were temporarily unable to pass through.

On Hong Kong Island, the area around Chai Wan and Shau Kei Wan was severely flooded, and trams were unable to run. When a bus was running, rainwater suddenly poured into the carriage.

At about 11:00 p.m., the MTR said that due to the flooding of the road, Entrance E of Sheung Shui Station and Entrance B and E of Chai Wan Station were temporarily closed.

A video on the Internet shows that a citizen in Chai Wan lost his footing and fell down. He tried to stand up, but was immediately swept away by the current tens of meters away.
