The broadcaster CNN reported on this post, which Robinson (56) is said to have left on the website more than a decade ago. According to CNN, Robinson also wrote that slavery was “not bad … I would definitely buy a few.” Under the nickname “minisoldr,” he is also said to have reported extensively on affairs with his wife’s sister.
In the current election campaign, there was also criticism of older statements Robinsons in which he relativized the Holocaust and praised Adolf Hitler.
Robinson is currently lieutenant governor in the hotly contested swing state of North Carolina – and has so far received massive support from Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. On Friday, there were already calls for his resignation from Republican ranks. Robinson rejected these, calling the CNN report “salacious tabloid lies.”
In response to a question about the CNN report on Robinson, a Trump spokeswoman said the former president was focused on moving into the White House and saving the country. “North Carolina is an important part of that plan,” she added.
