BKW’s German Subsidiary Wins Major Contract for Hamburg-East Transformer Station Renovation to Enhance Electricity Supply Security

Zurich (awp) – The energy group BKW has won, via its German subsidiary, a major contract from Stromnetz Hamburg for the complete renovation of the Hamburg-East transformer station intended to improve the security of electricity supply in the Hanseatic settlement.

The project, in which Stromnetz Hamburg plans to invest 90 million euros (85.6 million Swiss francs at today’s rate), includes the renovation of the airtight 110 kilovotl (kV) distribution installation, the in place and the deconstruction of transitional solutions on all voltage levels, as well as the renovation of electrical devices, reported the Bernese energy company on Monday in a press release.

The subsidiary BKW Energy Solutions will act as a general contractor and will therefore be responsible for all services – from drawing up planning and authorization documents, through to functional testing and commissioning of the new installation. . The work is expected to be completed by the end of 2030.

“The renovation of the Hamburg East transformer station will make a significant contribution to ensuring security of supply in the Hamburg metropolitan area in the long term and to meeting the increasing demand for electrical energy,” said Director Sven Behrend.
