New Delhi – The lawyer appearing for Brij Bhushan told the court that there is no basis in the sexual allegations once morest BJP MP and former president of wrestling federation Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. He told the court that Brij Bhushan only checked the pulse of the athletes. Brij Bhushan also argued in the court that looking at the pulse, except with sexual interest, cannot be considered a crime.
On the complaint of six women wrestlers, the police filed a charge sheet once morest Brij Bhushan and Vinot Tomar in the sexual assault case. The lawyer informed that the Oversight Committee was formed not on the basis of anyone’s complaint but on the basis of notes posted on the X platform by tagging the Ministry of Youth Affairs and the Ministry of Sports and Home Affairs. The Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, who heard the case, announced that the hearing will continue on October 19.
Advocate Rajeev Mohan appeared for Brij Bhushan. The first protest at Jantar Mantar will take place on January 18, 2023. On January 19, Babita Phogat, one of the wrestlers, met the Sports Minister. Then on January 12, notes tagged the Ministry of Sports and the Ministry of Home Affairs appeared on the Esk platform. Rajeev Mohan informed that till then there was no complaint from anyone. The Oversight Committee was formed on January 23. It was then handed over to the Delhi Police. He informed that there are no complaints even following the formation of the Oversight Committee. The committee had recorded the statements of the athletes.
The council also argued in court that an eyewitness had stated that he had never seen Brij Bhushan touch any girl with any wrongful intention. He informed that Brij Bhushan only checked the pulse and it was not with sexual interest. Brij Bhushan informed that he did not call anyone to the office and they came voluntarily. He said that the complainants focused on posting tweets instead of focusing on the competition.
Brij Bhushan has been accused of indecently touching the bodies of female wrestlers, asking very private questions and making sexual demands. On June 15, the Delhi Police filed a charge sheet once morest Brij Bhushan in the Delhi Patiala Court.
