Björn Skif’s honorary prize in memory of Gösta Ekman at the Children’s Cancer Gala

Every year, the honorary prize in memory of Gösta Ekman is awarded at the “Child Cancer Gala – The Swedish Humor Prize”. The award will go to a person who “through a long and successful career in the sign of humor made the Swedish people laugh on many occasions”.

Previous vintages have icons like Birgitta Andersson, Madness & After Shave, Suzanne Reuter and Lasse Åberg awarded the award that last year went to the revue queen Eva Rydberg. Now joins Björn Skifs to that crowd.

On Monday evening, the “Hooked on a feeling” singer had to step on stage and receive the audience’s standing ovation. Skifs, which over the years has made significant contributions to elicit laughter from the Swedish people, with film classics such as “Strul”, “Drömkåken” and TV favorites such as “Kryzz” and “Tack för kaffet”. He received the Papphammar statuette, representing Ekman’s classic comic character, at Berns in Stockholm.

Björn Skifs raised the Papphammar statuette towards the sky at the same time as the applause never seemed to want to end. The evening was, of course, dedicated to the important issue of eradicating childhood cancer. During the course of the gala, the viewers got to hear touching stories from children with cancer, while Sweden’s comedians were praised and praised.

– That’s what we usually say: “When life is the heaviest, then laughter is needed the most.” And these families who are in the middle of this, how important laughter is to them – and how grateful you are to those who make you laugh, say Carina Bergwho led the gala for the ninth year in a row, to Nöjeslivet.

28 million for research

After the gala, the Children’s Cancer Foundation was able to announce that SEK 28 million had been collected for research.

– I feel both proud and moved by the commitment shown during the evening, it shows that there are many of us who want to be involved and contribute to the vitally important childhood cancer research, says Anne Bergsten, executive producer of the Children’s Cancer Gala – the Swedish humor prize at the Children’s Cancer Foundation, in a statement.

She continues:

– To you I want to express a big warm thank you, but I also want to take the opportunity to thank all the brave children and families who have joined and shared their stories here tonight, you put into words what it can mean to suffer from childhood cancer, it is for you we exist.
