Sequence stranger from NBA Summer League was observed on Friday night during the meeting between Dallas Mavericks e Indiana Pacerswhich the former won 112-91.
Marcus Bingham Jr. caught a pass from guard Nike Sibande and ran down the court in the apparently wrong direction for what appeared to be a dunk in the wrong basket.
Even the Mavericks’ Summer League coach, Jared Dudleyasked the only question one might ask when something like this happens: “What are you doing?“.
Finally, according to the Sbnation portal, the referees messed up the whole sequence and ended up giving up on Bingham’s dunk, even though he scored on the correct basket.
What really happened? The Mavericks hit a 3-pointer to take a 104-78 lead. Indiana ran the ball to half court, where their coach called a timeout.
For some reason, the refs gave the Mavs the ball and pointed to the basket the Pacers were shooting at. Bingham realized his team wasn’t supposed to shoot at that basket, so he intercepted a pass from his teammate and ran to the opposite side to spike in the correct basket.
The referees they ruined the play and, finally, they gave the Pacers the ball and made them shoot at the correct basket. Bingham’s dunk didn’t count.
Even Marcus Bingham Jr. posted a tweet of the play with the following message:I was not wrong. The media say anything”.
Summer League is a time when NBA players and hopefuls for the biggest basketball league in the world prepare for the season.
