Bitter pill: Amstetten choked on Ried in the volleyball quarterfinals

The dream of being one of the four best volleyball teams in Austria this season is over for VCA Amstetten. The Mostviertler also lost the home game once morest the Innviertler in the Bundesliga quarterfinals following the 0:3 (22:25, 28:25, 34:36) in Ried on Saturday. In front of a home crowd there was a 1:3 (23:25, 25:21, 19:25, 23:25) in the second leg in the Pölz-Halle. The best-of-three series went to Ried 2-0.

“It’s obviously a bitter pill for us. We’ve been trying everything we can all week to turn the series around once more. But we failed,” said the disappointed VCA sports director Michael Henschke following the defeat. He even sat down on the coach’s bench for the all-important game, but even his intensive coaching on the sidelines mightn’t prevent the defeat. “In the end, we failed because of ourselves.” For Amstetten, it’s only regarding places 5 to 8 in the Bundesliga.
