Bitter defeat in Klagenfurt – FC Blau-Weiß Linz

Seven points from four games, plus the brilliant 3-0 win last weekend against SK Rapid and progress to the cup round of 16 during the week – these were fantastic days for our club and our team set off on the journey to Wörthersee with a lot of self-confidence. Unfortunately, however, they were also weakened by a lack of replacements!

Coach Gerald Scheiblehner had to do without Tursch, Moormann, Schmidt and Dantas due to injuries, but still trusted a strong team, which got off to a good start in the game. After six minutes, however, that changed suddenly when Strauss threw himself into a cross from Bobzien and this decision was reviewed for an incredible four minutes because of alleged handball. Ultimately, there was no penalty against us, but the flow was gone. Both teams then needed time to get back into the swing of things and in the 13th minute we were suddenly behind. After a mistake in the build-up play, Tosevski quickly took the ball across and Bobzien scored the 1-0 lead.

When Fabio Strauss was sent off with a straight red card a few minutes later for a foul, many people thought the game was over. Our team needed a few minutes to regroup, but managed to stabilize itself and keep the opponent at bay.

In general, Klagenfurt did little for the game and shortly before half-time we struck with ice-cold precision. From a free kick from a good 16 meters, sly Ronivlado was there to score the 1:1.

We also got off to a good start at the beginning of the second period. Klagenfurt only started to put more pressure on as the period went on, but without any real danger. Even though we were barely able to attack, we had the game under control for long stretches and hardly let anything through – but were caught cold again in the 82nd minute. After a free kick, we were unable to control the ball and substitute Binder beat Vitek to make it 2-1. We then put everything on the line again, threw everything forward and in this situation we were punished again – Wydra scored the final goal with the 3-1 in injury time.

A very bad day for the blue and whites! They lost 3:1 and on top of that our captain received a red card.
