BitMEX is coming up with an ingenious marketing campaign, as they will soon launch a bitcoin into space together with a space industry company. BTC to the moon, but now literally!
BitMEX, the leading bitcoin derivatives exchange, has announced that they will launch the first physical bitcoin to the moon in partnership with Astrobotic Technology Inc. and Bitcoin Magazine. A rocket containing a physical Bitcoin wallet is scheduled to launch from the Kennedy Space Center this summer, a major milestone for both space exploration and the crypto industry.

The rocket’s payload will be a BTC wallet engraved with a public address and private key loaded with 1 bitcoin, and according to the announcement, it will be the first financial instrument to go into space – if manages to overtake Lunarcrush’s expedition. According to the schemers of the campaign, the endeavor symbolizes the discovery of bitcoin’s uses beyond the Earth and provides an opportunity to interact with the coin in other ways in the future. Stephan Lutz, Acting CEO of BitMEX and Chief Financial Officer of the exchange, expressed his pride and stated: “This is not only the result of BitMEX, but a historic breakthrough for all of humanity.”
According to a press release sent to Bitcoin Magazine the mission underwent extensive testing and preparation to ensure everything was ready for space travel. In addition to the already mentioned physical bitcoin, the organizers will pay tribute to Satoshi by sending the text of the Genesis Block – the first Bitcoin network block ever mined – to the moon. The Genesis block is inscribed on a metal plate with raw hexadecimal data and a hologram of the Bitcoin Magazine logo.
Not surprisingly, the masterminds are also issuing commemorative virtual coins and Ordinals NFTs in honor of the expedition. A bid will be launched in cooperation with Bitcoin Magazine for the replica of the launched coin and the Genesis Block metal plate.
