Bitch abandoned with eight puppies

Employees of the TierQuartier in Donaustadt are used to a lot when it comes to animals. But even they were stunned that previously unknown people simply abandoned a bitch and her eight puppies and left them to their fate.

A few days ago, passers-by became aware of a purple cat transporter on the campsite path in Donaustadt, next to which a white-beige dog was sitting. They discovered eight puppies in the van. The animals were left without water and food, apparently simply abandoned. The dogs were taken to the TierQuartier.

No major health problems

The veterinary examinations showed that the dogs had not lived in optimal conditions. The bitch should be three years old, the puppies should have been born in March. The dogs had fleas and matted fur. However, no major medical problems were discovered. The bitch was given the name “Poppy”. She is still a bit reserved and intimidated, but shows interest in people. The eight puppies, on the other hand, are actively playful and full of energy, according to the TierQuartier.

“We experience every day how heartless people treat animals. But it’s the first time that we’ve seen eight puppies put in a van and left with their mother along the side of the road,” says operations manager Thomas Benda. He reminded that the abandonment of animals is animal cruelty and is therefore punishable. There were penalties of up to 7,500 euros. In addition, it is inhumane to simply leave defenseless puppies and their mother to their fate.

Wanted names for puppies

Names are now being sought for the eight puppies. Suggestions for this can be made on the TierQuartier’s social media channels. As soon as the veterinary examinations have been completed and the state of health permits, the nine dogs will move to new homes. In order to allocate animals from the TierQuartier, it is first necessary to fill out a questionnaire on the website.

The TierQuartier is also asking for your help in clarifying the case. Anyone who has seen anything suspicious or knows regarding the case, such as where the animals come from, should contact the City of Vienna’s pet service on 01/4000 80 60.
