We reproduce the pronouncement of the bishops of Chiapas
“We share with you that we are concerned regarding the reality we are living in our state; the wave of violence present in our dioceses, which destabilizes society and that on many occasions is generated for organized crime; the presence of corruption at all levels of governmentwhich generates so much damage to the well-being of communities and families.
“To these, unfortunately, are added; the migration, floor payment, insecuritywidespread poverty, educational and health lagthe lack of labor support and awareness of equal opportunities between men and women.
“We feel responsible for raising awareness of the significance of our participation as Catholic Christians in the political life of the country, of which we are all aware, of a strongly individualistic and reductionist vision of the human being, which causes a series of violations of the right to a decent life and in abundance that Jesus has promised us. Violence that also attacks family and community values.
“All this in the midst of a voracious electoral reality that we are living with the candidates for the presidency of the Republic, State and Municipal, as well as for senators and deputies; where We do not find concrete proposals to respond to this reality that we are experiencing.
“We have also discussed, in a spirit of faith, regarding the importance of responsible citizen participation, on the occasion of the upcoming elections in the coming months, as a sign of co-responsibility to live and strengthen democracy in our country, which guarantees the participation of all in the election of new public servants. With our participation we can make a difference to improve.
Think
“We believe that, since creation, God has endowed us with dignity, creating us in the image and likeness of Him (cf. Gen 1:26); Hence, we all have human dignity from the moment of conception, which is specific to the person and independent of their condition and, consequently, there are rights that cannot be denied and that we must safeguard and respect, because in this way way the integrity and dignity of the person in society is protected.
“We know that the first right is that of life, the foundation of other rights or possible goods, such as freedom, justice and peace, as well as the common good.
“We believe that, just as Christ always went regarding doing good to his brothers (cf. Acts 10:38), so too the Christian people and every person of good will have the duty to actively participate and collaborate in this task of doing good.” good to others.
“In this sense, we must dialogue, discern, pray and act in favor of the common good, to which we all have the obligation and responsibility, and so do the candidates who apply for public service.
“The common good that looks at the well-being of the community in all areas, avoiding selfish positions that look at personal interest, must be a priority for everyone.
Act
“We consider that in some regions of the State that are being affected by violence, displacement or controlled by drug trafficking, there are no conditions for the elections to take place in said places; However, where possible, we must do everything possible to participate actively and freely, being aware of social responsibility in the transformation of a more just and fraternal society.
“The formation of Catholics is necessary for their participation in social and political issues. And this is not just for when election time arrives. For this reason, we believe that this training must be provided permanently from the different areas and services, to not to live indifferent to these situations of violence.
“It is important that the laity assume their role in political life and be a leaven of the Kingdom of God in these spaces, carrying the accumulation of human and Christian values that make a difference in a society that has chosen idolatry.
“As Catholics we invite you to discern wisely to choose in the next elections the people we consider will ensure the common good of the communities.
“It is also up to us to collaborate to that campaign promises are fulfilled, always seeking the good of the community, because whoever achieves the election must work for the good of all.
“We urge candidates for public office to give concrete proposals to respond to the most urgent issues: violence and insecurity, drug trafficking, poverty, land exploitation, migration, health, education.
“THE We invite you not to sell your dignity, not to sell your vote because in this way they will continue to feed the corruption that has done so much harm to our Nation. Our commitment as pastors is ratified together as the People of God and we ask the Blessed Virgin of Guadalupe to intercede before Our Lord and continue to protect us with her maternal mantle. Our Blessing.”
