Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova described German Foreign Minister Annalina Birbock’s statements regarding her Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov at the G20 meeting as “absolute nonsense.”
On Friday, on her channel “Telegram”, Zakharova drew attention to the words of Berbock, who claimed that Lavrov conducted most of the negotiations in the G-20 Ministerial Council, not at home, but abroad. What it sees as evidence of the assumption that the Russian government is not willing to “budge a millimeter” for talks.
Zakharova commented, “Does she even understand what you are talking regarding? What room outside? What kind of utter nonsense is this?”
Zakharova noted that Lavrov has been in the hall since the start of the G20 Ministerial Council meeting, and following regarding two hours he began conducting bilateral negotiations with his fellow forum members in the next room. In addition, the Minister had pre-scheduled, attended the meeting, the organizers’ dinner, had many bilateral contacts and communicated with the international press.
According to Zakharova, Birbock made this statement due to the failure of the G7 countries’ plan to boycott Russia. “No one has supported Western regimes,” the diplomat added. So they get angry.”
