hello. Doldae The product we are reviewing today is a motherboard called BIOSTAR B650MT-E PRO JCHYUN. BIOSTAR is one of the top five motherboard manufacturers in Taiwan. In Korea, it is well known by the nickname “Biological Star.” With BIOSTAR, you can choose cost-effectiveness as the most important feature. BIOSTAR is the original cost-effective motherboard manufacturer, and in addition, it also offers good cost-effectiveness in graphics cards, SSDs, and memory. BIOSTAR’s motherboard is now available in Korea once more through distribution by JC Hyun. The BIOSTAR B650MT-E PRO JC Hyun that we are reviewing today is a cost-effective motherboard that fills in the shortcomings of the B650MT product we reviewed last time. So let’s see how good it would be. Dr.MOS is applied to the power supply, resulting in greater stability and power efficiency. (Product DB Description) BIOSTAR B650MT-E PRO JC Hyun supports AMD’s AM5 socket and supports the B650 chipset that can accommodate AMD Ryzen 7000 series CPUs. This is the motherboard. It supports DDR5 RAM and can be used up to an operating clock of 6000MHz when overclocked. Supports PCIe 4.0, allowing you to use the latest graphics cards and M.2 NVMe SSDs that support PCIe 4.0 with full performance. The durability of the motherboard has been increased by using a PCB coated to prevent moisture, and using highly durable chokes and solid capacitors. The Dr.MOS power supply design shows excellent stability and high efficiency. The size of the product is 244mm wide and 244mm tall. The free following-sales service period is 3 years. Currently (December 10, 2023) the lowest price on Danawa is 142,430 won. The internal packaging is neat and well done. (Check product delivery status) When you lift the lid of the delivery box, the product box is inside. This is what the product box looks like. Product features and specifications are listed. There is also a statement saying that JC Hyun will provide free following-sales service for 3 years. There is no seal label room. Many motherboards do not have seal label seals. The product box can also be opened by lifting the lid upwards. First, the motherboard is wrapped in anti-static plastic, and the remaining components are placed underneath it. The number of RAM slots has increased to 4, the number of M.2 SSD slots has increased to 2, and the USB TYPE C header is supported. (Description of product appearance, features, and components) These are the components of the product. Includes the main board, DVD driver, 2 SATA cables, WiFi antenna accessories, I/O shield, manual, and WiFi antenna installation guide. BIOSTAR B650MT-E PRO JC Hyeon can use the WiFi function by purchasing the WiFi Kit separately. This manual shows how to install the WiFi antenna accessory to use the WiFi function. This is a manual. It explains the motherboard specifications, how to install the CPU, RAM, and cooler. Although it is only in English, the explanation is quite detailed. This is the DVD driver. It’s rarely used these days, but it’s better than nothing, right? This is a SATA cable. There are only two straight types. The length is approximately 42cm. This is a WiFi antenna accessory. When you want to use the WiFi function, attach it to the motherboard along with a separate WiFi Kit. This is an I/O shield. Attach it to the I/O port on the back of the case. This is what the motherboard looks like. Overall, it is a typical black motherboard. There is a slight pattern on the board, but it is not significant. This is what the power supply looks like. There is a heat sink in the power section. The power supply unit uses Dr.MOS and has been strengthened to 10 phases. It is said that at this level it can be used with the 7800X3D. I think you can build a gaming PC using the B650 chipset board at a price as reasonable as the A620. Only one 8-pin auxiliary power source is received. The mercury battery is located in the upper left part. The original location of the mercury battery varies depending on the motherboard, but this is the first time I have seen it located here. On the upper right side of the motherboard, there is one CPU FAN and one CPU OPT header, as well as two 5V ARGB headers and one 12V RGB header. If you use a water cooler, you can use it by connecting the pump pin to the CPU OPT header. Also, because it has a 5V ARGB header, you can also use ARGB for system coolers, CPU coolers, etc. However, it is better to have the 5V ARGB headers spread out far away when making decisions, so it is unfortunate that there are two on one side. This is a RAM slot. The number of RAM slots has been increased to 4. Usually, regarding 2 RAM slots are used, so it doesn’t matter if there are 2 slots, but 4 slots is enough, which is good in many ways, such as when additional RAM needs to be installed or when the RAM slot is defective. On the right side, there is a main power 24-pin port, one USB 3.2 Gen1 TYPE A header, and one USB 3.2 Gen2 TYPE C header. There is a USB 3.2 Gen2 TYPE C header so you can use the Type C port on the front of the case. Next to the TYPE C header are four SATA ports. At the bottom right is the front panel header, beep speaker header, and M.2 SSD slot. The M.2 SSD slot supports PCIe 4.0. Oh, by the way, the M.2 SSD fixing screw is not included in the basic package, but it is already attached here. At the bottom left, there is an HD Audio header, a SYS FAN header, and two USB 2.0 headers. There is an M.2 slot and a PCIe 4.0 slot at the bottom of the socket. Since both slots support PCIe 4.0, both the latest graphics cards and the latest PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSDs can be used with full performance. Two M.2 SSD slots are provided along with the slot seen above. However, what is disappointing is that it is located slightly below the graphics card PCIe slot. So, if you use a graphics card thicker than PCI 3 slots, it is difficult to install it by blocking the headers at the bottom. The graphics card’s PCIe slot has a latch that secures the graphics card. There is also a small slot on the left side. This is where the WiFi Kit is installed. There is a small silver heatsink in place of the chipset. There is a socket in the middle of the motherboard where the CPU can be installed. This time, with the change to the LGA method, the draw phenomenon was prevented. The lid can be opened by releasing the right latch. This is what the I/O port looks like. From the left, HDMI port and DP port, smart BIOS update button, PS/2 port and 2 USB 2.0 TYPE A ports, 1 USB 3.2 Gen2 TYPE A port and 1 USB 3.2 Gen2 TYPE C port, and 2 USB 3.2 Gen1 TYPE A ports. There is a LAN port, two USB 3.2 Gen1 TYPE A ports, and an audio jack. BIOSTAR B650MT-E PRO JCHYUN supports SMART BIOS UPDATE. You can automatically update the BIOS by inserting a USB containing the latest BIOS into the lower right port among the four USB 3.2 Gen1 TYPE A ports and turning on the power while pressing the BIOS update button. It’s nice to be able to easily update the BIOS. There is nothing special on the back of the motherboard. Use 8 screws to secure to the case. It supports 5V ARGB, so you can use the ARGB LED properly. (Exterior description and actual use following installation of the product) This shows the CPU and RAM installed on the motherboard. The CPU is an AMD Ryzen 7900 product, and the RAM is two Team Group DDR5-5600 16GB Black Gold. Of course it was installed well. This is what it looks like mounted on the case. If you use it with a CPU like 7800X3D, you may need to use a water cooler, but since the CPU OPT header exists separately, using a water cooler is no problem. This is how the system boots up. This time, a 5V ARGB header has been added, so ARGB LEDs can be used properly. If you need to tune the LED, you can download and tune Biostar’s VIVID LED software. BIOSTAR B650MT-E PRO JC Hyun also supports debug LED. When the system boots, the red LED lights up sequentially through DRAM, CPU, VGA, and BOOT LEDs. If it boots successfully, the LED will turn off. If booting does not work properly, you can easily check which part is defective by checking where the LED is lit. Since it is a B650 board, it provides PBO function, and its effect is clearly visible. (Description of the product’s BIOS and PBO function) This is what the BIOS screen looks like. It is a UEFI BIOS with a GUI, as is typical of modern BIOS. You can set time, boot settings, chipset settings, password settings, fan PWM settings, overclock settings, etc. In the left sidebar, you can check the status and temperature of the CPU and DRAM. If you go to AMD Overclocking in the Advanced tab of BIOS, you can see a menu called Precision Boost Overdrive. This is the PBO function. The PBO function can be used properly starting from the B650 chipset, and BIOSTAR B650MT-E PRO JChyun is a B650 chipset, so the PBO function can be used. The PBO function is a function that allows the motherboard to check the status of the CPU and automatically overclock it. If you want to bring out the extreme performance of your CPU, you must manually overclock it, but manual overclocking is not easy and takes a lot of time. However, using the PBO function has the advantage of being able to overclock simply and easily, although it is slightly inferior to manual overclocking. By default, it is set to Auto. If you want to get more performance here, you can use Enabled or Enhancement mode, or use Advanced mode to make detailed settings. AMD Eco Mode is a feature that limits power usage to desired levels. If you value temperature or power usage rather than performance, you can use AMD Eco Mode. Please note that Auto mode also has PBO turned on, so you must set it to Disable to completely turn it off. After setting up PBO, I briefly ran Cinebench. The first is Disable, the second is Auto, the third is Enabled, and the last is Enhancement (temperature limit of 85 degrees). The test CPU is AMD Ryzen 7900. If you set it to Enabled or Enhancement mode, you can see that there is a clear increase in multi-core performance. I think it went up by regarding 4000 points. Overall Review Advantages – Generous 4 RAM slots, 2 M.2 SSDs, and Dr.MOS power supply support at an affordable price – Supports ARGB 5V header – Supports SMART BIOS UPDATE, a simple BIOS update – Supports debug LED to help identify problems – B650 chipset It supports PBO function and shows solid performance. Disadvantage – Difficult to use a graphics card that uses more than 3 PCI slots. BIOSTAR B650MT-E PRO JChyun added many features that were lacking, improving performance and providing good cost-effectiveness. It was a board. We recommend the BIOSTAR B650MT-E PRO JCHYUN to anyone looking for a cost-effective motherboard for a gaming PC.
