Bioluminescence: animals capable of producing their own light

2023-08-25 10:06:13

Other marine animals living more on the surface are capable of another equally impressive luminous phenomenon: the biofluorescence. In this case, the animal does not produce light with its own energy but it is able to assimilate a light source around it via proteins, before rebroadcasting it and thus changing color.

This process is of great interest to researchers, particularly in the field of neuroscience. This natural fluorescence technology might indeed be used to help to visualize the different phenomena that occur in our brain. Because if current methods such as CT or MRI already give a good overview of brain activity, they are not yet precise enough to observe in detail. all neural interactions that take place in brain tissue.

The development of such a machine might facilitate surgical operations and contribute to real advances in the field of neuroscience. A gigantic field of research where there is still so much to explore…
