The spontaneous demonstration in Bambéto, Monday January 8, 2023, was bloodily repressed by the security forces. The young student Ibrahima Bah, 18, was fatally shot.

Mrs. Binta Djoula Bah is the mother of Ibrahima Bah. She explains the circumstances in which her only son was killed. “My son is 18 years old and a student. Around 10 a.m., we were doing the laundry, the soap was finished. I gave him money to get some soap at the nearby store, that’s when armed men showed up and shot him. He died on the spot. They saw my son with a bar of soap, yet they did not hesitate to kill him at point blank range. People called me to tell me, I passed out. They took my son’s body towards the hospital. Personally, people have forbidden me to see it but those who have seen it say that it was shot on the back. The body was sent to Ignace Deen Hospital in the morgue. From there, he was taken to the Faisal Mosque and then he was buried yesterday at 2 p.m. He was my one and only son. I will never forgive the one who killed him, I leave it to God,” explains the inconsolable mother.

The latest news is that Elhadj Amadou Korka Diallo, another young high school student, injured during the Monday demonstration, has died.
