Right now we’re in a really weird spot, a really strange spot, and I can’t really tell you what’s going on. I don’t know myself. I get different data from people, and I’m in the band, so…”

Sol Invictus

“Well, it’s kind of a weird spot we’re in right now,” Gould admits candidly when asked about the band’s current situation. “it’s really as it sounds. Mike’s been dealing with his mental health, and that’s the priority. We’re all supporting him and respecting his space. As for the band, we’re kind of in limbo. We’re not actively working on new material, but we’re also not calling it quits.”
The uncertainty surrounding the band’s future is undeniably challenging, both personally and professionally. Gould acknowledges the difficulties: “It’s challenging,for sure. I think we’ve all learned to be patient and understanding. we’ve been through so much together, and our bond remains strong. It’s just a waiting game right now, and we’re trying to focus on other things in the meantime.”

Faith No More is a part of all our lives,and I think it would be a shame to never play together again. I can’t say when it will happen, but I have hope that we’ll all be ready and eager to start something up again when the time is right.”

I don’t want to speak for everyone in the band, but I think we’d probably incorporate elements of our past while also incorporating new influences we’ve picked up over the years. We’ve never been ones to chase trends,so it would likely maintain our signature sound while still feeling fresh.”

archyde: Billy, thank you for taking the time to talk to us today. faith No More has been relatively quiet since your last tour in 2015. Can you give us any updates on what’s been happening with the band?
Billy Gould: Hey, thanks for having me. Yeah,it’s been a while as we’ve been active. I guess you could say we’re in a bit of a limbo right now. We had a grate run with the “Sol Invictus” album and tour, but then we had to take a step back due to some personal issues with Mike.
Archyde: We’ve heard about Mike’s mental health struggles.How have those affected the band’s plans?
Billy Gould: Well,it’s no secret that Mike has been dealing with some stuff.His well-being is our top priority, and if he needs time to focus on himself, we support him 100%. We’ve all been in this band for a long time, and we’re more like family than bandmates. We know that when the time is right, we’ll reconnect and see what happens.
Archyde: Roddy Bottum described the band’s situation as a “semi-permanent hiatus” last year. How would you describe it?
Billy Gould: I understand where Roddy’s coming from, but for me, it’s still a bit uncertain.We’re not actively working on new music or planning tours, but at the same time, we’re not officially done either. We’re just taking it day by day and seeing how things go.
Archyde: That leaves fans in a state of limbo, hanging on to every word. Are there any hints or gestures towards the future that you can share with us?
Billy Gould: (laughs) I wish I had more to share, but honestly, I don’t know what the future holds. I’ve been working on some solo stuff and other projects to keep myself occupied, and the rest of the guys have been doing their own things too. When the time feels right,and everyone’s in the right headspace,I’m sure we’ll find a way to reunite and make some more music together.
Archyde: Fans would absolutely love to see that happen. Speaking of which, you’ve mentioned before that you write music all the time. Are there any new Faith No More songs that you’ve written during this downtime?
Billy Gould: There are definitely ideas and riffs floating around, but right now, it’s not the right time to start forcing anything. When we do get back together,I’m sure we’ll revisit those ideas and see what sticks. But for now, it’s more vital for us all to focus on our individual journeys and come back to it when we’re ready.
