Bills rescue quick 14-9 win over Giants

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — Josh Allen patiently directed two long scoring drives in the second half, capped by a 15-yard touchdown pass to Quinton Morris with 3:58 remaining, and the The Buffalo Bills defeated the short-handed but resilient New York Giants 14-9 on Sunday night.

What was expected to be a blowout by the Bills turned into an exciting, tight, occasionally sloppy contest that wasn’t decided until the final play and with the clock at zero.

Giants quarterback Tyrod Taylor’s pass to the end zone bounced off Darren Waller’s fingertips as he faced first-and-goal from the 1-yard line. New York had an additional chance following linebacker Terrel Bernard was called for defensive interference on a pass intended for Waller as time expired on third-and-5 from the Buffalo 10-yard line

The Bills (4-2) held on, but just barely, and recovered following being shut out in the first half of a game for the first time since a meaningless 2019 season finale — a 13-6 loss to the New York Jets, in which Buffalo rested Allen and its starters following having earned a ticket to the playoffs.

Buffalo overcame two first-half turnovers — receiver Gabe Davis’ lost fumble and an Allen interception — to lead the Giants to the lead as Graham Gano kicked field goals of 29 and 43 yards.

The Giants (1-5) suffered their fourth straight loss in a game that ended each half with an offensive drive that stalled at the Buffalo 1-yard line.
