bills in Riga should become smaller

Jana Roze, head of the public relations department of JSC “Rīgas siltums” said:

Firstly: from June 1, the tariff for thermal energy is planned to be 82.63 euros per megawatt-hour (MW/h) without value added tax (VAT). This is 6% less than the current tariff for thermal energy.

Secondly: from October 1, the tariff is planned to be reduced to 76.49 euros/MWh excluding VAT.

However, the project is still being assessed by the Public Utilities Commission (Regulator). It was submitted based on changes in energy prices.

According to Rose, the main variable part of the thermal energy tariff is the cost of natural gas, wood chips and purchased thermal energy.

Let us note that at Rīgas siltums they have not forgotten about themselves. The turnover of JSC “Rīgas siltums” last year, according to preliminary data, amounted to 442 million euros, which is twice as much as in the previous year. In turn, the company’s profit amounted to 1.8 million euros, which is 15% more than a year ago.

“Rīgas siltums” is one of the main suppliers of thermal energy in Riga. 49% of the company’s capital belongs to the Riga City Council, 48.99% to the Latvian state, 2% to SIA “Energy solutions. RIX”.
