Billions of financial irregularities exposed in PSL 1 and 2

In the first and second season of Pakistan Super League (PSL), financial irregularities of Rs 2 billion 77 crore have been revealed.

A meeting of the Public Accounts Committee of the Parliament was held under the chairmanship of Rana Tanveer in which the special audit report of Pakistan Super League One and Two was reviewed.

In the meeting, financial irregularities of 2 billion 77 crore rupees were revealed in PSL One and Two. According to the audit report, the franchises of three teams in PSL, Islamabad United, Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta, were sold at a low price, resulting in a loss of 1.1 million dollars per year to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

According to the audit report, PCB paid more than the amount fixed by the central pool to the franchise owners and PCB paid an additional Rs 2486 million to the franchise owners.

Ehsan Mani explained in the meeting that the situation was difficult at that time and it was necessary to hold the PSL, the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) rules were not applicable to the PCB.

Naveed Qamar, a member of the committee, said that the PCB will be independent but its owner is the government. Secretary IPC said that PCB says we don’t take a pie from the government, at that time Pipera rules were not applicable for auctioning teams.

The Public Accounts Committee directed a departmental inquiry into the financial irregularities of PSL and directed the Secretary IPC to investigate and submit a report within a month.

Noor Alam Khan said that you should not think that if there is any theft in the PCB, we will not catch it. Chairman PAC asked why the special audit report of Pakistan Cricket Board has not come. Chairman PCB Ehsan Mani replied that I only supervise, I do not interfere in every matter of the institution.

PAC expressed indignation at the reply of Chairman PCB and said that you are the head and responsible of the organization, do not talk irresponsibly, you have to account for every penny.

Chairman PAC Rana Tanveer adjourned the meeting and said that the audit will review the objections after the inquiry report is received.
