Kansas basketball coach Bill Self addresses Arterio Morris’ dismissal

Here’s some of what Kansas basketball coach Bill Self had to say Monday following the recent arrest and dismissal of Arterio Morris.

Former Kansas basketball player Arterio Morris is reportedly planning to continue his career at a junior college in California.

The Lawrence Journal-World reported Saturday that Morris, who was dismissed from the KU program in September following being arrested and charged with rape, is set to play at Los Angeles Southwest College. This comes a day following the athletic director at Garden City Community College in Kansas, Mike Pilosof, announced that it was in the best interest of everyone to note that Morris is no longer enrolled at that in-state institution.

Multiple requests to Los Angeles Southwest College have yet to be answered.

According to the Lawrence Journal-World, this was the plan since around Morris’ suspension from the KU program in mid-September — which came following the rape allegation in the state of Kansas. Attending a school in the state of Kansas would have allowed Morris to stay closer to where the court case for his rape charge is being held, but that didn’t work out. Morris is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday in Douglas County District Court in Lawerence.

This is the not the first court case Morris has dealt with, as he recently pled no contest in a plea agreement for a case that originated in the state of Texas. Morris, who played his freshman year of college basketball at Texas before transferring to Kansas ahead of the upcoming season, was arrested in June 2022 and faced a Class A misdemeanor for assault that caused bodily harm to a family member. The plea agreement dropped that to a Class C misdemeanor for assault, gave Morris a fine and dropped the family violence finding.
